REFRESHER TRAINING IN MEDICAL FIRST AID (MFA)

Duration: 1 Day (3 hours)

Medical first aid (MFA) on a ship refers to the initial medical care provided to a sick or injured person onboard a ship at sea. The aim of first aid is to provide immediate care to stabilize the patient’s condition, prevent further injury, and promote recovery until more specialized medical care is available. The Medical First Aid Refresher Course conducted under Regulation VI /4, Para 1, STCW Code section A-VI /4 Para 1-3 and Table A-VI/4-1 of the STCW 78 Convention, as amended and also meet the guidance contained in Section B-4.1.1 Paragraph 3 of the Maritime Labor Convention 2006.

TEACHING METHOD:

The training will take place in the classroom with lecture and practical demonstration using medical tools and models, similar to those undertaken on the original medical first aid course.

ENTRY REQUIREMENT / TARGET GROUP:

This course is required for certificated officer and other rankings working on board ship or about to work on board ship who possess a valid Medical First Aid on Board Ship Certification (as listed in column 1 of table A-VI/4-1) that is nearing expiry and wishes to renew this certification.

COURSE CERTIFICATE:

On successful completion of this course the Institute will issue certificate of attendance and proficiency certificate will be issued by Department of Shipping (DoS).
