REFRESHER TRAINING IN MEDICAL CARE (MEDICARE)

Duration: 1 Day (3 hours)

This course will ensure that the trainee will be able to respond swiftly and with full autonomy, to all sorts of medical emergencies that can occur frequently at sea. It is a maritime specialty certificate issued by the IMO (International Maritime Organization). Every item of the course is contextualized with seamanship language and given by health professionals who can certify years of experience in health training and medical emergencies The Course is conducted under Regulation VI /4, Para 2, STCW Code section A-VI /4 Para 4 to 6 and Table A-VI/4-2 of the STCW 1978 Convention, as amended and also meet the guidance contained in Section B-4.1.1 Paragraph 3 of the Maritime Labor Convention 2006.

TEACHING METHOD:

This course is equally balanced between theoretical and practical learning. Students will be given recap on theoretical aspects of medical care and assistance on board a ship followed by series of practical demonstration under the guidance of professional medical practitioner.

ENTRY REQUIREMENT / TARGET GROUP:

For admission to the course, seafarers must be in the possession of a valid STCW Medical Care (A-VI/4-2) Certificate.

COURSE CERTIFICATE:

On successful completion of this course the Institute will issue certificate of attendance and proficiency certificate will be issued by Department of Shipping (DoS).
