RATING FORMING PART OF A NAVIGATIONAL WATCH

Duration: 5 Days (30 hours)

This course covers various subjects that are relevant to the watch-keeping duties and responsibilities of deck ratings forming part of a navigational watch.

COURSE AIMS & OBJECTIVES:

The course aims to enhance knowledge, understanding and practical skills of seafarers to enable them to demonstrate the required competence to perform the functions at the support level. Upon successful completion of the course, trainees should be able to demonstrate competence in performing the navigational function & encourage safety consciousness on board the vessels. Additionally, trainees will have acquired working knowledge, understanding and proficiency for demonstration of competence in watch keeping, protection of the marine environment and safety of life at sea. This course is based on the requirements Regulation II/4 under Chapter II of the STCW Convention and Section A-II/4, mandatory requirements for rating forming part of a navigational watch, columns 3 and 4 of Table A-II/4, Regulation 8 of the STCW-78 Convention, as amended.

COVERAGE / PROGRAM FOCUS:

TEACHING METHOD:

The course consists of both theoretical and practical sessions. Class-room lecture sessions will be conducted covering the relevant theoretical part using modern class room with all facilities. Small group not exceeding 4 candidates can be formed for group discussion. Practical sessions will be conducted in ship handling simulation room where candidates will be trained on look out, helm orders, response and steering techniques.

ENTRY REQUIREMENT / TARGET GROUP:

This course is principally intended for trainee who:
– is not less than 17 years old
– has 12 months approved sea service including at least 6 months experiences as lascar-3 in the deck department or 3 months sea service with approved deck rating pre-sea training
– possesses Navigational watch rating certificate as per rule 20. (Govt. of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh, Ministry of Shipping Notification – Dated 8th February 2011)
– has Medical fitness as per rule 25 (Govt. of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh, Ministry of Shipping Notification – Dated 8th February 2011).

COURSE CERTIFICATE:

The trainee who completed the course will be issued with a Certificate of attendance certifying that the holder meets or exceeds the level of knowledge specified in Section A-II/4 mandatory requirements for rating forming part of a navigational watch, columns 3 and 4 of Table A-II/4, Regulation 8 of the STCW-78 Convention, as amended. Proficiency certificate will be issued by Department of Shipping (DoS).
