This fourteen days’ course is designed for Deck officers and aims to provide the minimum knowledge, understanding, and proficiency required for certification of GMDSS radio operators and enable candidates to efficiently operate the GMDSS equipment. It conforms to the requirements specified in Regulation IV of the International Convention of Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping for Seafarers 1978 (STCW), as amended, and the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) Radio regulations Article 55 for General Operator Certificate.
The training is conducted using TRANSAS (Currently Wartsila) TGS 5000 equipment (DSC VHF, MF/HF transceiver, Inmarsat-C, Inmarsat F-77) for sea area A1, A2, A3 & A4. The facility consists of 6 independent stations containing detailed operations of all standard GMDSS equipment including EPIRB, SART and NAVTEX. In addition, dedicated battery bank is used to demonstrate battery usage and maintenance procedures.
