GMDSS-GOC (IMO MODEL COURSE 1.25)

This course is designed for Deck Officers with responsibility for both Distress and Commercial Radio Communications onboard ships. It conforms to the requirements specified in Regulation IV of the International Convention of Standards of Training, Certification and Watch keeping for Seafarers 1978 (STCW), as amended, and the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) Radio regulations Article 55 for General Operator Certificate.

COURSE AIMS & OBJECTIVES:

The course generally aims to provide the minimum knowledge, understanding, and proficiency required for certification of GMDSS radio operators and enable candidates to efficiently operate the GMDSS equipment.

At the end of the course, candidates should be able to practically gain technical know-how and accordingly put into operation the principles and procedures of the following :

COVERAGE / PROGRAM FOCUS:

The coverage of the course is in accordance with the Memorandum Circular No. 17-12-2002 issued by the National Telecommunications Commission; and takes into account the “Examination Syllabus for GOC Certificate”, CEPT RR Project Team for the Harmonization of Maritime Certificates. It gives both a detailed theoretical and practical knowledge of the different radio systems onboard a vessel equipped with a GMDSS radio station.

SYSTEM & EQUIPMENT

The training center uses the latest transas equipment (DSC VHF, MF/HF transceiver) for sea area A1, A2, A3 & A4, and simulator for Inmarsat-B, Inmarsat F-77.

ENTRY REQUIREMENT / TARGET GROUP:

Entry to this course is open to Deck Officers with responsibility for both Distress and Commercial Radio Communications onboard ships.

COURSE CERTIFICATE:

A Certificate of Completion is given to each candidate who satisfactorily fulfills the Course.

NOTE: At the end of the course, examination is conducted by the Department of Shipping who will issue the GMDSS GOC certificate to successful candidates.
