RATING FORMING PART OF AN ENGINEERING WATCH

Duration: 5 Days (30 hours)

This course is designed to equip trainees with operational skills, knowledge and attitudes of Rating forming part of a navigational watch in accordance with industry standards. The course aims to provide the trainees with introductory knowledge and understanding of basic theory and practical skills necessary for a Rating forming part of a navigational watch.

COURSE AIMS & OBJECTIVES:

The course aims to enhance knowledge, understanding and practical skills of seafarers to enable them to demonstrate the required competence to perform the functions at the support level. The course has been designed to provide the learner with the knowledge and skills in seamanship required to perform duties as an engine rating forming part of a watch in a manned engine-room. This course has been designed to meet the requirements Regulation III/4 under Chapter III of the STCW Convention and Section A-III/4 to perform duties as an engine rating forming part of a watch in a manned engine-room of the STCW-78 Convention, as amended.

COVERAGE / PROGRAM FOCUS:

TEACHING METHOD:

The course consists of both theoretical and simulation based practical sessions. Class-room lecture sessions will be conducted covering the relevant theoretical part using modern class room with all facilities. Practical sessions will be conducted through simulator covering E/R watch keeping techniques as supporting hand. Particular focus will be given to the instrumentation and equipment of engine room, use of emergency equipment and apply emergency procedures.

ENTRY REQUIREMENT / TARGET GROUP:

This course is principally intended for trainee who:
– is not less than 17 years old
–  has 12 Months approved sea service including at least 6 months experience and training in the engine department or 3 months sea service with approved engine rating pre-sea training.
– possesses Engineering watch rating certificate as per rule 21. (Govt. of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh, Ministry of Shipping Notification – Dated 8th February 2011)
– has Medical fitness as per rule 25. (Govt. of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh, Ministry of Shipping Notification – Dated 8th February 2011).

COURSE CERTIFICATE:

The trainee who completes the course will be issued a Certificate of attendance certifying that the holder meets or exceeds the level of knowledge specified in STCW section III/4 to perform duties as an engine rating forming part of a watch in a manned engine room. Proficiency certificate will be issued by Department of Shipping (DoS).
