ADVANCED TRAINING FOR OIL TANKER CARGO OPERATIONS (ATOT)

This course provides training for Masters, chief engineer officers, chief mates, second engineer officers and any person with immediate responsibility for loading, unloading care in transit, handling of cargo, tank cleaning or other cargo related operations on oil tankers. The course takes full account of Section A-V/1-1 paragraph 3 of the STCW Code.

COURSE AIMS & OBJECTIVES:

This course provides training for Masters, chief engineer officers, chief mates, second engineer officers and any person with immediate responsibility for loading, unloading care in transit, handling of cargo, tank cleaning or other cargo related operations on oil tankers. It comprises an advanced training programme appropriate to their duties on oil tankers for their ability to imbibe a safety culture to perform & monitor all cargo operations, familiarity with properties of oil cargoes, take precautions to prevent hazards, apply health &safety precautions, respond to emergencies fire safety measures, take precautions to prevent pollution of the environment, and monitor & control compliance with legislative requirements. The course takes full account of Section A-V/1-1 paragraph 2 of the STCW Code adopted by the International Convention on Standards of Training, Certification and Watch keeping for Seafarers 1978, as amended.

TEACHING METHOD:

Instructions will be undertaken through a series of lectures, tutorials and video presentation. Instructor lead interactive classroom sessions will be delivered. Students will also have hands-on exposure to the use of an oil cargo handling simulator to demonstrate expertise of various shipboard operations of tanker vessel.

ENTRY REQUIREMENT / TARGET GROUP:

Entry to this course is open to those who have completed “Basic Training for Oil and Chemical Tanker Cargo Operations”; and have completed at least 3 months approved seagoing service on oil tanker (Reg. V/1-1, Para. 4 of STCW code, as amended)

COURSE CERTIFICATE:

A certificate of course completion shall be issued to those who shall satisfactorily fulfill the course requirements. Certificate of Proficiency is issued by the Department of Shipping on completion of an oral test.
