ADVANCED TRAINING FOR LIQUID GAS TANKER CARGO OPERATIONS (ATGT)

Duration: 8 Days (60 hours)

The course aims at providing training at an advanced level for Masters, Chief Engineer Officers, Chief Mates, Second Engineer Officers and any person onboard Liquefied Gas tankers who have immediate responsibility for the loading, discharging, care in transit and/or handling of the cargo, as established by the Regulation V/1‐2., paragraphs 4.3, section A‐V1‐2 paragraph 2 and Table A‐V /1‐2‐2 , of the International Convention on Standards of Training certification and Watch keeping for Seafarers, 1978, as amended.

COURSE AIMS & OBJECTIVES:

After completing the course, the candidates should be able to acquire the knowledge, skills and attitude for the safe cargo operation of gas tankers, precautions to prevent hazards, prevention of pollution, firefighting operations, Knowledge and understanding of relevant provisions of the International Convention for the Prevention of Pollution from Ships (MARPOL), emergencies, precautions to prevent pollution of the environment from the release of gas.

TEACHING METHOD

This course is delivered through a combination of classroom lectures and practical demonstrations on the use of safety equipment. Case studies, the use of ‘Liquid Cargo Handling Simulator’ (LCHS) and multimedia teaching aids are included in the course to promote a better appreciation of safety operations on such tankers.

ENTRY REQUIREMENT / TARGET GROUP:

This course is open to seafarers who have completed a shore-based fire-fighting training course approved by the Administration, and who have relevant experience appropriate to duties on liquefied gas tankers, as stipulated in STCW regulation V/1, para 2.1, and paragraphs 1.1 or 1.2.

COURSE CERTIFICATE:

A certificate of course completion shall be issued to those who shall satisfactorily fulfill the course requirements. Certificate of Proficiency is issued by the Department of Shipping on completion of an oral test.
