Duration: 5 Days (30 hours)
COURSE AIMS & OBJECTIVES:
The purpose of the course is to provide training to meet the minimum mandatory requirements for training and certification for masters, deck officers, engineer officer and all other personnel with immediate responsibility for the care and use of fuels and fuel systems on ships using fuels covered within IGF Code, as per regulation A-V/3 and Section A-V/3-2 of the STCW’78 as amended and following guidelines of IMO model course 7.14.
Those who successfully completing the course should be able to demonstrate functions subject to the IGF code:
- Demonstrate familiarity with physical and chemical properties of fuel aboard ship
- Operate controls of fuel related to propulsion plant and engineering system and services
- Safety perform and monitor all operations related to fuel
- Plan and monitor safe bunkering, stowage and securing of fuel
- Take precautions to prevent pollution of the environment from the release of fuel
- Monitor and control compliance
- Take precautions to prevent hazards
- Apply occupational health and safety precautions

TEACHING METHOD:
The instructions will be delivered through classroom lectures, visual aids, simulators, instruments, labs or workshop activities. Lab or workshop activities consists of practical demonstration of gas measuring and safety equipment.
ENTRY REQUIREMENT / TARGET GROUP:
This course is intended for seafarer holding certificate of proficiency for Basic Training for ships subject to the IGF code. Masters, Engineer officers and all personnel with immediate responsibility for the care and use of fuel and fuel system subject to IGF code shall be required to hold certificate in advance training for ships subject to IGF code.
COURSE CERTIFICATE:
A certificate of course completion shall be issued to those who shall satisfactorily fulfill the course requirements. Certificate of Proficiency is issued by the Department of Shipping on completion of an oral test.
