Duration: 3 Days (15 hours)
Fire Prevention and Fire Fighting (STCW A-VI/1-2.1.2) is a part of the mandatory Basic Safety Training and STCW Refresher course. It is also the first step towards Advanced Fire Fighting training. The course covers the basics of fire causes on vessels, the use of extinguishers, firefighting techniques etc.
COURSE AIM / OBJECTIVE:
This is a highly practical course and involves the use of purpose-built facility where the candidates will undertake several scenario-based exercises. At the end of the lesson, candidates will be able to:
- Understand how to minimize the risk of fire on board
- Know the onboard equipment, procedures and personal safety requirements in fire situations

TEACHING METHOD:
Instructions will be undertaken through a series of lectures, tutorials and practical session. Practical sessions will be carried out physically at the purpose-built station.
ENTRY REQUIREMENT / TARGET GROUP:
The course is mandatory for all to join ship.
COURSE CERTIFICATE:
A certificate of course completion shall be issued to those who shall satisfactorily fulfill the course requirements. Certificate of Proficiency will be issued by the Department of Shipping on completion of an oral test.
