Duration: 10 Days (70 hours)
This course covers core competencies such as perform engine watchkeeping duties, oversee fuel, bilge and ballast operations, operate equipment and machinery, operate electrical equipment and maintain engine room machinery and spaces specified under Regulation III/5 of Chapter III of the STCW Convention and Section A-III/5, Table A-III/5, Specifications of minimum standards of competence of ratings as able seafarer engine, of the STCW Code, as amended.
COURSE AIMS & OBJECTIVES:
This course aims to equip individual with operational skills, knowledge and attitudes of Able Seafarer Engine. The learner should have the following knowledge and practical skills at the end of the course:
- Assist with marine engineering watch-keeping duties at support level
- Assist with bunkering and liquid transfers at the support level
- Contribute to the operations of the ship and care for persons on board at the support level
- Follow safe electrical electronic and control engineering processes at the support level
- Provide maintenance and repair on board ship at support the level
- Carry out designated security duties and contingency plans at the support level

ENTRY REQUIREMENT / TARGET GROUP:
This course is intended for Engine ratings who:
1. Is not less than 19 years of age
2. Has 12 months sea service after holding engineering watch rating certificate or 36 months sea service as GP rating including 18 months sea in the engine department after holding engineering watch rating certificate.
3. Possesses Proficiency in Survival Craft and Rescue Boat certificate as per rule 15(1). (Govt. of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh, Ministry of Shipping Notification – Dated 8th February 2011)
4. Possesses Able Seafarer Engine certificate as per rule 20. (Govt. of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh, Ministry of Shipping Notification – Dated 8th February 2011)
5. Has Medical fitness as per rule 25 (Govt. of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh, Ministry of Shipping Notification – Dated 8th February 2011).
COURSE CERTIFICATE:
The trainee who completed the course will be issued with a Certificate of attendance certifying that the holder meets or exceeds the level of knowledge specified in Section A-III/5 and Table A-III/5 of the STCW Code, as amended. Proficiency certificate will be issued by Department of Shipping (DoS).
