Course Title: REFRESHER TRAINING FOR BASIC AND ADVANCED SAFETY COURSES

In accordance with the Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping (STCW) Code, seafarers employed or engaged in any capacity on board ship on the business of that ship as part of the ship’s complement with designated safety or pollution-prevention duties in the operation of the ship shall, before being assigned any shipboard duties receive approved basic training or instruction in certain areas concerning basic and advanced safety training. This course is designed to fulfill the requirements of STCW Code 95 as amended in 2010 with respect to this “Basic Training” REFRESHER requirement. It is designed to give the individual a level of knowledge beyond simple vessel familiarization for those seafarers who have basic and advanced safety training.

COURSE AIMS & OBJECTIVES:

The objective of this course is to provide appropriate training or instruction as set out in STCW Code Table A-VI/1-1, A-VI/2-1, A-VI/1-2, A-VI/3. Individuals will be required to demonstrate competency in accordance with the methods and criteria for evaluating competence tabulated in section A-I/11 through examination and/or continuous assessment throughout the course.

COVERAGE / PROGRAM FOCUS:

1. Personal Survival Techniques (PST)
2. Fire Prevention and Fire Fighting (FPFF)
3. Proficiency in Survival Craft and Rescue Boat other than Fast Rescue Boats (PSCRB)
4. Advanced Fire Fighting (AFF)

METHOD:

BMTI would provide for class room with –

• Overhead and multimedia facility
• White board and writing materials
• Instruction videos
• Equipment for Practical Demonstrations
• Library for Practical Demonstrations
• Training Pond
• Life boat and Liferaft
• Smoke chamber and approved fire fighting Unit

ENTRY REQUIREMENT / TARGET GROUP:

Candidates must have already obtained Basic and Advanced SafetyTraining certificate as original certification.

COURSE CERTIFICATE:

On successful completion of this course the Institute will issue certificate of attendance and proficiency certificate will be issued by Department of Shipping (DoS).
