Course Title: NAVIGATIONAL WATCH RATINGS COURSE FOR DECK RATINGS

This course is based on the requirements of Regulation II/4 under Chapter II of the STCW Convention , Section A-II/4 and Table A-II/4 under Part A, Chapter II of the STCW-78 Code as amended in 2010, “Mandatory requirements for Ratings Forming Part of a Navigational Watch navigational functions at the support level” and satisfies Section B-II/4, “Guidance regarding the Training and certification of ratings forming part of a navigational Watch”,STCW-78 as amended in 2010.

COURSE AIMS & OBJECTIVES:

The course aims to enhance knowledge, understanding and practical skills of seafarers to enable them to demonstrate the required competence to perform the functions at the support level. Upon successful completion of the course assessment/examination, trainee should be able to demonstrate competence in performing the navigational function at the support level as specified in Columns 1 and 2 of Table A-II/4 of the STCW Code. In addition, to encourage safety consciousness trainees will have acquired working knowledge, understanding and proficiency as well as the demonstration of competence in watchkeeping, protection of the marine environment and safety of life at sea.

COVERAGE / PROGRAM FOCUS:

1. Steer the ship and also comply with helm orders in the English language
2. Keep a proper look-out by sight and hearing
3. Contribute to monitoring and controlling a safe watch
4. Operate emergency equipment and apply emergency procedures

FACILITIES:

1. Facilities for theoretical part
Ordinary classroom of minimum 25 places, equipped whit:
• Whiteboard
• PC computer
• Multimedia Projector with screen
• Demonstration table
Separate rooms, equipped with a table and chairs, will also be available to accommodate three or four groups of trainees during case studies and other group assignments
2. Facilities for practical part For the practical part of the course, all necessary equipments are available.

ENTRY REQUIREMENT / TARGET GROUP:

This course is principally intended for trainee who has:

- Be not less than 17 years old
- 12 Months approved sea service including at least 6 months experiences as lascar-3 in the deck department or 3 months sea service with approved deck rating pre-sea training
- Navigational watch rating certificate as per rule 20. (Govt. of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh, Ministry of Shipping Notification – Dated 8th February 2011)
- Medical fitness as per rule 25 (Govt. of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh, Ministry of Shipping Notification – Dated 8th February 2011).

COURSE CERTIFICATE:

The trainee who completes the course will be issued a Certificate of attendance certifying that the holder meets or exceeds the level of knowledge specified in Section A-II/4 mandatory requirements for rating forming part of a navigational watch, columns 3 and 4 of Table A-II/4, Regulation 8 of the STCW-78 Convention as amended 2010 and proficiency certificate will be issued by Department of Shipping (DoS).
